Superior Court appearance set for next month
Bladen County, NC — A Bladen County man remains jailed on three counts of first‑degree murder after investigators found three men dead inside a residence near Clarkton on March 17, 2025. The accused, Kevin Musser, 35, was taken into custody following the discovery of the victims: Greg Dennis, 62; Randy Benton, 54; and Phillip Palmer, 32. The accused called 9-1-1 reporting the crime himself.
Musser also faces charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, and larceny involving a victim’s property. The combination of homicide and felony‑related allegations places the case within North Carolina’s capital‑eligible framework, where prosecutors may file a Rule 24 notice to pursue the death penalty.
North Carolina law still permits capital punishment, though executions have been paused since 2006 due to ongoing litigation.
Rule 24 remains available in cases involving multiple victims or murder committed during certain felonies. Musser’s charges meet several of those statutory aggravating factors, prompting the current review. A Bladen County Superior Court appearance is scheduled for next month.
Musser remains held without bond.
