Rosa Buffkin Nobles, 88, of Chadbourn, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Lower Cape Fear Angel House.
Rosa was born on August 9, 1938. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ulysses Samuel Buffkin, Sr. and Callie Rabon Buffkin; husband, Horace Raymond Nobles; brother, Ulysses Samuel “Sam” Buffkin, Jr.
Celebration of life will be conducted on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Worthington Funeral Home Chapel, with private burial to follow in Chadbourn Memorial Cemetery; Pastor Dave Crumpler will officiate.
A visitation will be held prior to the service in the chapel from 10:00-10:45 a.m.
She loved her family deeply, but perhaps nothing brought her greater joy than her grandchildren. Even as her family spread across cities and states, she always found ways to remain wonderfully connected to each of them. Social media gave her a window into their lives, YouTube kept her entertained and informed, and texting meant that a special moment could reach her almost instantly. A picture, a message, a phone call or a simple hug always brightened her day.
She treasured those moments, often returning to them in conversation and weaving them into stories about our family. Somehow, a text from that morning could become the beginning of a family history lesson about something that happened decades ago. She had a remarkable memory and a special way of connecting generations—reminding us of where we came from while staying genuinely interested in what was happening in our lives right now.
And then there was Hannah, her beloved pup, who brought her endless companionship and affection. Hannah was truly a blessing. Add in a good YouTube video, a nice cup of coffee, a bowl of ice cream and she had many of the ingredients for a very happy day.
She understood that the greatest joys in life were often the simplest ones: hearing a loved one’s voice, receiving a message from someone she loved, sharing a chuckle, getting or giving a hug, or knowing that her family was doing well. Those small moments mattered to her, and through the way she cherished them, she taught us all to cherish them too.
Mom, mama, grandma, nana, GG and nana-banana are the names she carried and those were the sweetest sound to her ears when they were spoken. We will miss her but take comfort in knowing we will see her again.
The surviving family includes three children, Kim Nobles Parker (Larry), Horace Gregory Nobles (Rosa), Joseph Samuel Nobles (Sara); grandchildren, Cary Strickland (Stephanie), Jared Parker, Dylan Parker, Aaron Nobles, Lucas Nobles, Jacob Nobles, Noah Nobles; great-grandchildren, Riley Parker and Kinsley Parker.
