RALEIGH, N.C. — Caldwell County native Zachary “Zack” Benfield has officially joined the governing board of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC).
Benfield was sworn into office on Thursday, Oct. 1, during the Commission’s meeting at agency headquarters in Raleigh. Appointed by N.C. Speaker of the House Destin Hall, Benfield will fill the unexpired term of former Commissioner John Stone, serving through June 30, 2027.
Born and raised in Caldwell County, Benfield is a certified arborist with a utility-specialist focus and a graduate of Caldwell Community College. An avid hunter and angler, he regularly explores North Carolina’s outdoors alongside his wife, Sarah, and their two children.
“I’ve built my life and career around the outdoors and the community I call home,” Benfield said in a statement following his appointment. “I’m passionate about seeing younger generations grow their connection to the outdoors and committed to supporting healthy, thriving wildlife populations for the future.”
The 19-member NCWRC board holds statutory authority to establish statewide policies and regulations overseeing hunting, fishing, trapping, and boating activities across North Carolina.
