Brunswick County Public Utilities advises residents to run water in drains to help prevent smoke from entering homes during routine sewer system testing.
CALABASH, NC — Brunswick County Public Utilities will conduct smoke testing on the sanitary sewer system serving the Village at Calabash 2 subdivision beginning today and continuing through October 16.
Testing may take place on multiple days during that period between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Officials said residents may notice smoke coming from the ground, manholes, sewer pipes, roof vents, or gutters as crews inspect the sewer system.
The smoke testing is a routine maintenance procedure used to identify leaks, breaks, and other issues within the sanitary sewer network.
To help keep smoke from entering homes during testing, residents are encouraged to run water in all sinks, bathtubs, and showers. Keeping water in P-traps creates a seal that helps prevent smoke from traveling through household drains.
Residents with questions or concerns about the testing may contact the Brunswick County Utilities Department at (910) 253-2657
