COLUMBUS COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE BREAKS UP MULTI-COUNTY THEFT RING; $100K IN PROPERTY RECOVERED

CHADBOURN, NC — A multi-county investigation into local property crimes culminated this week following the arrest of a fourth suspect linked to a widespread theft ring operating across Columbus, Bladen, and Robeson counties.

The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division executed a search warrant on Peacock Road in Chadbourn, leading to the recovery of $100,000 worth of stolen items. Investigators have since returned the recovered property to the respective victims.

Sheriff W.A. Rogers announced that the joint investigative efforts resulted in the arrest and charging of four individuals:

  • Matthew Wayne Hurst, 33, of Tabor City: Arrested on August 17, 2026, and charged with conspiracy to commit felony larceny and altering serial numbers. He is currently held with no bond.

  • John Michael McDonald, 35, of Loris: Arrested on July 29, 2026, facing charges including multiple counts of failure to appear, possession of stolen goods, obtaining property by false pretense, felony larceny, residential/vehicle larceny after breaking and entering, and property damage. He is held with no bond.

  • Shayna Logue, 30, of Chadbourn: Arrested on July 29, 2026, and charged with possession of stolen goods, felony larceny, breaking and entering a motor vehicle with theft, damage to property, and obtaining property by false pretense. She was issued a $5,000 bond.

  • Joseph Reinhart, 35, of Garland: Arrested by the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office and charged with felony larceny and felony conspiracy to commit larceny.

Sheriff Rogers emphasized his department’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding local residents, stating, “These arrests are the result of dedicated investigative work, and we will continue to pursue those who target our homes, businesses, and property.”

All individuals listed are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
