COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC — Severe weather moving across the region Friday has left thousands without electricity in Columbus County, with Duke Energy reporting several large outage zones stretching from Tabor City to Lake Waccamaw. The utility continues to display a Carolinas‑wide alert noting that crews are assessing damage and making repairs where conditions allow.
In Tabor City, roughly 750 customers are currently without power as a major outage cluster remains active on Duke Energy’s map. Chadbourn is experiencing one of the largest interruptions in the county, with approximately 850 customers affected. Lake Waccamaw is reporting around 175 outages, and numerous smaller pockets of service loss are visible in the areas between these communities.
Duke Energy said severe weather has caused widespread outages across both North and South Carolina and urged residents to avoid downed power lines and other hazards while crews work. Several outage zones in Columbus County still show “Assessing damage,” meaning restoration estimates have not yet been posted.
Countywide totals remain elevated as repair crews continue moving through the affected areas. Additional updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
