Raleigh, North Carolina — Brittany Boltinhouse, removed as Miss North Carolina USA 2026 earlier this month, is now contesting the decision through a defamation lawsuit that she says stems from a coordinated effort to portray her as intolerant.
The filing alleges pageant officials and affiliated organizations circulated a false narrative suggesting she was racist, homophobic, and transphobic, which she says was used to justify taking her crown.
Boltinhouse argues the Miss USA Organization and A Blaize Productions misrepresented her social‑media history and implied she had admitted to being an intolerant figure. The lawsuit claims her removal was driven by her identity as a conservative Christian rather than any conduct violation. Court documents reference resurfaced posts from 2017 and 2019, including a racial slur and political commentary supporting Donald Trump and conservative commentators.
Her attorney says the language was colloquial and not intended as hate speech, while Boltinhouse maintains she was targeted for her views.
Pageant officials previously stated her removal followed a review of conduct “over an extended period of time” and reaffirmed that the organization does not tolerate language that demeans others. Boltinhouse is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, citing reputational harm, emotional distress, and loss of professional opportunities following the decrowning.
