BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC — Brunswick County Public Utilities is thanking customers for helping reduce peak water demand this summer. Based on those efforts and recent improvements in weather, the county has moved from a Stage 2 Mandatory Water Conservation Alert back to a Stage 1 Voluntary Water Conservation Alert.
Public Utilities is asking customers to continue following the recommended irrigation schedule to help keep water pressures higher during daylight hours, improve storage for firefighting capability, and reduce water loss from evaporation. Staying on the schedule now also helps limit the need for stricter measures if drought conditions worsen again.
While recent rainfall has helped the county make baby steps toward recovery, officials say conditions remain dry enough that conservation is still important. Public Utilities continues monitoring water demand and drought indicators and will update customers if conditions change or additional measures are needed.
Residents are encouraged to follow the county’s Recommended Irrigation Schedule, which assigns watering days based on address numbers and limits irrigation to nighttime hours between 8:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. No irrigation is permitted on Mondays. The full schedule and additional water‑wise guidance are available at BrunswickCountyNC.gov/WaterWise.
Customers with questions about the voluntary alert or irrigation recommendations can contact Brunswick County Public Utilities or their local water provider.
