Improved drought conditions allow return to permitted open burning
Boiling Spring Lakes, NC — The City of Boiling Spring Lakes has lifted its burn ban effective immediately after consultation with Brunswick County officials and local police and fire departments. The change follows improved drought conditions, allowing residents to resume open burning with a valid city permit.
City officials stress that all burning remains regulated. Only yard waste four inches or less in diameter may be burned, and man‑made materials, logs, and stumps are prohibited.
Fires must be supervised, kept at least fifty feet from structures or combustible materials, and conducted only between sunrise and sunset. A pressurized water source must be present, and only one fire is allowed per lot per day.
Barrel burning is permitted with a valid permit.
Permits are issued in person at City Hall or the Police Department Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Permits are valid only for the day issued and may be denied or canceled by the City Fire Marshal when conditions are unfavorable.
Burning must occur on the same property where the material originated. Contractors may not burn debris while clearing lots, and businesses may not burn man‑made materials. No burning is allowed in city rights‑of‑way.
Prescribed burning within city limits may only be conducted by the North Carolina State Forestry Service or the Nature Conservancy, with coordination from Boiling Spring Lakes Fire and Rescue and approval from the N.C. Forestry Service.
