HALLSBORO & LAKE WACCAMAW — Columbus County Public Schools fell victim to two major property crimes within a one-week span. Deputy Zachary Morris investigated the initial report on Aug. 28 at Hallsboro School Road, where thieves disassembled and removed $7,000 worth of A/C parts and condensers.
Days later, on Sept. 4, Deputy Ricky D. Lewis was dispatched to East Columbus Jr/Sr High School on Gator Lane in Lake Waccamaw. School officials reported that a catalytic converter valued at $600 was sawed off a school-owned Ford F-250 truck. Sheriff’s office investigators are currently reviewing security footage to determine if the two incidents targeting school system property are connected.
