SOUTHPORT, NC — Duke Energy will conduct a scheduled test of the Brunswick Nuclear Plant’s warning sirens on Wednesday, October 7, as part of the company’s routine emergency preparedness program. The test will involve all sirens located within the 10‑mile emergency planning zone surrounding the plant.
The activation is expected to last only a few seconds, sometimes longer. The test is a standard part of system maintenance and does not indicate an emergency at the facility.
Duke Energy conducts periodic siren tests throughout the year to ensure the system remains fully operational in the event of an actual emergency. During a real event, sirens would sound for a longer period and residents would be instructed to tune in to local radio, television, or official county channels for information.
