Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Incident Log: September 23, 2026

The following incidents and law enforcement responses were reported by the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office for Wednesday, September 23, 2026:

• Contraband in Detention Facility (Whiteville): At approximately 10:42 a.m., Deputy Austin Inman responded to the NC Department of Corrections facility on Prison Camp Road following the discovery of a weapon inside. A metal wire with a handle was recovered. A 23-year-old male inmate was listed as the suspect in the possession of a weapon charge.

• Warrant Service (Whiteville): At 1:21 p.m., F/Sgt. Steven Moore served a Failure to Appear warrant on a 25-year-old female at a residence on New Britton Highway East.

• Warrant Service (Whiteville): At 3:47 p.m., Deputy Da’Norie Mack served an outstanding warrant at the Probation Office on James B. White Highway.

• Traffic Pursuit & Concealed Weapon (Whiteville): At 4:53 p.m., Deputy Timothy B. Stewart responded to an incident originating near Pine Wood Drive. Charges against 23-year-old Jaesean Daryan Freeman included possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon, failure to heed light/siren, driving while license revoked, and failure to carry a valid license. Deputies seized a 9mm Dagger handgun and a Toyota Avalon.

• Larceny (Riegelwood): At 5:06 p.m., Deputy Timothy Harrington investigated a theft reported at a home on Old Stage Highway. Stolen items included two 10-karat rope necklaces ($750 value), an Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max ($1,500 value), a 10-karat nugget earring ($100 value), and an Apple Watch Series 7 ($800 value). A 68-year-old male was identified as the suspect.

• Warrant Service (Evergreen): At 7:34 p.m., F/Sgt. Taylor Hammonds executed a warrant service at the intersection of Old Lumberton Road.
