Regional News: A fast‑moving nor’easter pushed into the Northeast overnight, delivering heavy rain, strong northeast winds, and repeated coastal flooding from New York City to Boston. Long Island and coastal Connecticut saw the most significant impacts, including water levels rising several feet above normal and surf exceeding 10 foot.
Wind gusts reached hurricane‑force levels in Montauk, and multiple trees fell across Long Island and northern Westchester County. A fatality in Queens was verified by regional emergency officials after a tree fell during the height of the storm.
Flooded streets prompted rescues in New Jersey and Queens, while more than 84,000 customers across New Jersey, Connecticut, and Long Island lost electricity as saturated soil brought down lines.
Inland areas such as Hartford, Springfield, and the Hudson Valley experienced heavy rain and gusty winds, though impacts were less severe. Communities farther west, including Syracuse, saw only light rain.
The Northeast is accustomed to nor’easters, and emergency crews responded quickly as conditions peaked overnight. The system is expected to weaken through Sunday, with gradual improvement into Monday.
