The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has classified a recall of 122,021 cases of certain Gatorade products as a Class II recall due to undeclared FD&C Yellow No. 5 and Yellow No. 6 food dyes.
The recall includes 28-ounce bottles of Gatorade Lemon Lime, Gatorade Lemon Lime Zero, Gatorade Orange, and Gatorade Orange Zero.
According to the FDA, a Class II recall means exposure to the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, while the risk of serious health effects is considered remote.
The affected products were distributed in 37 states, including North Carolina.
No illnesses associated with the recall had been publicly reported when the FDA issued its classification.
Consumers are advised to check affected lot numbers and contact the retailer where the product was purchased for return or refund information.
