MORE THAN $12,000 REPORTED STOLEN IN SEPARATE FRAUD CASES

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC — Local law enforcement officers opened investigations into two major fraud and swindle schemes reported in Tabor City and Whiteville late last week.

On Friday, Oct. 2, Corporal Aaron Dehne investigated an incident at Metal Recycling Services of Whiteville on James B. White Highway South, where the business reported $1,259.10 taken through false pretenses. A 56-year-old male was identified as a suspect. On the same day, Sergeant Pamela Bryan investigated a fraud case on Peacock Road in Tabor City where an 86-year-old victim reported a loss of $1,183.13.

On Saturday, Oct. 3, Deputy Nathan Gilbert responded to a scam call at 445 Bill Long Road in Tabor City. The victim reported a financial loss of $11,359.81 through a false pretense and confidence game. Both investigations remain active.
