WHITEVILLE, N.C. — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office responded to several reported incidents across the county on Wednesday, Oct. 7, including church break-ins, fraud complaints, weapons violations, and property crimes.

Church & Residential Break-Ins

  • Lebanon United Methodist Church (Whiteville): Deputies responded to 9237 James B. White Hwy. S. at approximately 9:55 a.m. following a report of breaking and entering. The front doors of the church sustained an estimated $250 in damage.

  • Pocosin Road (Lake Waccamaw): Officers responded to 3325 Pocosin Rd. around 12:44 p.m. for a report of breaking or entering with intent to terrorize or injure. Damaged door latches were reported at the scene, valued at $400.

Weapons & Drug Offenses

  • Pine Log Road (Whiteville): Detectives conducted a stop near 1458 Pine Log Rd. at 5:44 p.m., leading to multiple charges against a 45-year-old Whiteville man. Seized items included a silver .22-caliber North American Arms revolver, .22-caliber ammunition, 0.35 grams of cocaine, and a Yamaha XV1700A motorcycle. Charges filed include Felony Possession of Cocaine, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Carrying a Concealed Gun, and Littering Hazardous Waste.

  • East Holland Street (Chadbourn): Deputies investigated a Domestic Violence Protection Order (DVPO) violation at 215 East Holland St. around 3:10 p.m. A brown/black Heckler & Koch VP9 firearm was recovered in connection with the incident.

Fraud & Financial Crimes

  • Whites Crossing (Whiteville): A resident at 310 Whites Crossing reported a wire fraud incident at 3:32 p.m. involving an estimated financial loss of $7,500.

  • Best Road (Whiteville): Deputies responded to 332 Best Rd. at 5:04 p.m. regarding a report of obtaining property by false pretenses. The victim reported the theft/fraudulent acquisition of 8x8x16 concrete blocks valued at $900.

Vehicle Crimes & Warrant Services

  • Hunter Avenue (Chadbourn): Officers took a report of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle at 174 Hunter Ave. at 3:26 p.m. involving a Mazda M6 valued at $3,000.

  • Pine Log Rd. / Fruit Ridge Rd. (Whiteville): Deputies executed an outstanding warrant service at the intersection of Pine Log Road and Fruit Ridge Road at 5:44 p.m.
