CONWAY, SC — National Weather Service meteorologists in Wilmington have confirmed no tornadoes touched down in Horry County during Sunday’s severe weather.
A regional tornado watch was active through Sunday afternoon as tropical moisture moved across the Grand Strand. While the system produced gusty winds, heavy downpours, and brief radar-indicated rotation in nearby inland counties, Horry County avoided tornadic activity.
Regional Impact
Survey teams monitored severe thunderstorm cells moving northeast across the state line over the weekend. Radar tracking prompted warnings in neighboring areas including central Columbus County, North Carolina -where rotation was detected aloft.
Emergency management reports indicate Horry County experienced only localized wind and rain, with no tornado-related structural damage.
Weather officials continue to review regional storm data. Residents who observe unrecorded storm damage can submit reports to local emergency management or the NWS Wilmington office.
