HORRY COUNTY, SC — Residents, property owners and other interested stakeholders will have an opportunity next month to learn more about the proposed SC-22 Extension project and provide feedback as federal environmental reviews move forward.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host a series of community meetings in November aimed at gathering public input and identifying concerns that should be examined as part of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process.

Representatives from the Army Corps, South Carolina Department of Transportation, Horry County and engineering consultant AtkinsRéalis will be available during the meetings to answer questions and discuss details of the proposed project. Information will be presented through informational displays, allowing attendees to speak directly with members of the project team in an informal setting.

Officials say the meetings are designed to help identify environmental, community and property-related issues that may require further analysis during preparation of the EIS.

In addition to discussing the proposed roadway project, the project team will provide information about the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review process. Public comments received during the outreach effort will be documented and included in a Scoping Report that will help guide future environmental studies.

Residents who cannot attend in person will have access to pre-recorded presentations online. Project officials noted that all meeting attendees and online participants will receive the same project information.

The public comment period is scheduled to run from November 3 through December 4, 2026. Written comments submitted online and comments provided during the community meetings will receive equal consideration as the environmental review continues.

Additional information about the proposed SC-22 Extension, including presentation materials and opportunities to submit comments, is available at SC-22Extension.com

The proposed extension has drawn significant public interest because of its potential impact on transportation, future development and growth patterns throughout portions of Horry County.
