AYNOR, SC — The mother of a former Aynor High School student has filed a civil lawsuit against former social studies teacher Matthew Michael Boster and Horry County Schools, alleging the district failed to protect her daughter from inappropriate conduct and grooming during school hours.

The lawsuit was officially filed in circuit court on October 18, 2026, by Katie Colon on behalf of her minor daughter. The civil action comes roughly 16 months after Boster’s initial arrest on criminal charges in June 2025.

According to court filings, the complaint alleges that Boster used his position as a classroom teacher during the 2024–2025 academic year to groom the then-16-year-old student for an improper relationship. The suit names both Boster and Horry County Schools as defendants, seeking damages for alleged negligence and failure to maintain a safe educational environment.

Boster was originally hired by Horry County Schools in August 2024. Following an investigation by the Horry County Police Department in June 2025, he was arrested and charged with criminal solicitation of a minor and second-degree assault and battery. Arrest warrants from the initial criminal case alleged Boster engaged in inappropriate physical contact with the student and sent electronic messages soliciting sexual activity.

Boster was placed on administrative leave following the allegations and submitted his resignation effective June 10, 2025. On August 5, 2025, the South Carolina State Board of Education issued an emergency summary suspension of his educator certificate, citing an imminent threat to student safety.

No trial date for the civil suit has been set as the case moves into the discovery phase.
