CONWAY, SC — Conway Medical Center has expanded its reach across Horry County through the acquisition of five former Novant Health facilities, a move hospital officials say will increase access to urgent and rehabilitative care as the county’s population continues to grow.
The acquisition includes four urgent care clinics located in Carolina Forest, Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach and Little River, along with a physical therapy clinic in Myrtle Beach. Conway Medical Center also retained all 43 employees who worked at the facilities, allowing services to continue under the new ownership with minimal disruption.
Hospital leaders described the purchase as a strategic investment in expanding healthcare access throughout one of South Carolina’s fastest-growing regions. Horry County has experienced steady residential and economic growth in recent years, increasing demand for convenient healthcare options outside of traditional hospital settings.
The newly acquired urgent care centers are expected to serve patients with illnesses and injuries that do not require emergency room treatment, helping provide additional access points for care closer to where residents live and work.
The physical therapy location expands Conway Medical Center’s outpatient rehabilitation services and recovery programs.
According to Conway Medical Center, the transition will take place on a rolling schedule. The Carolina Forest and Little River urgent care locations are scheduled to reopen under the CMC banner on November 2, followed by the Myrtle Beach urgent care center on November 9 and the Surfside Beach location on November 16. The physical therapy clinic is slated to reopen under Conway Medical Center on October 22, 2026.
The acquisition also complements other healthcare expansion efforts underway by Conway Medical Center, including the development of additional emergency care facilities intended to serve growing communities throughout the county. Hospital officials say the combination of urgent care, emergency services, specialty care and rehabilitation services is designed to create a more connected healthcare network for local residents.
While the transaction transfers ownership of five outpatient facilities to Conway Medical Center, no public announcement has indicated that Novant Health is completely exiting the Horry County market. The acquisition specifically involves four urgent care clinics and one physical therapy location previously operated by Novant Health.
For residents, the most immediate change will be new Conway Medical Center branding at the facilities while maintaining access to healthcare services in key areas throughout Horry County. As population growth continues across the Grand Strand region, healthcare providers are increasingly expanding their footprints to meet rising demand for medical care closer to home.
