RALEIGH, NC — The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Division of Aviation is now accepting submissions for the 2027 North Carolina Aviation Art Contest, an annual statewide competition designed to inspire creativity and engage youth in aviation education.
This year’s theme, “Forever First in Flight,” celebrates North Carolina’s historical and ongoing legacy of innovation in aviation.
“This contest has always been a great opportunity to inspire students to be creative and learn something new about aviation,” said NCDOT Division of Aviation Director Nick Short. “We are excited to be hosting a statewide competition for our North Carolina youth.”
The competition is open to any North Carolina student born between Jan. 1, 2009, and Dec. 31, 2020. Entries are divided into three distinct age categories:
-
Junior Category: Students born between Jan. 1, 2017, and Dec. 31, 2020.
-
Intermediate Category: Students born between Jan. 1, 2013, and Dec. 31, 2016.
-
Senior Category: Students born between Jan. 1, 2009, and Dec. 31, 2012.
Winning artists and their respective schools will receive cash prizes provided by the North Carolina Airports Association. NCDOT officials noted that the 2027 contest will be limited to the statewide level and will not advance to national or international judging rounds.
Since 2013, more than 13,000 North Carolina students representing over 825 schools have participated in the program. Additional details regarding contest rules, submission guidelines, and entry forms are available through the NCDOT Division of Aviation.
