BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. — It was a difficult Friday night for Brunswick County football teams, as all three county programs that took the field suffered losses against conference opponents. South Brunswick, West Brunswick, and North Brunswick were all unable to slow high-powered offenses as the regular season enters its final weeks.
FAIRMONT PULLS AWAY FROM SOUTH BRUNSWICK
The South Brunswick Cougars fell on the road Friday night, dropping a 46-13 decision to Fairmont High School. The loss comes one week after the Cougars earned a hard-fought victory over South Columbus.
South Brunswick entered the game with a 4-4 overall record and second place standing in conference play. The Cougars were unable to keep pace with Fairmont’s offense as the Golden Tornadoes secured the conference victory.
The loss drops South Brunswick to 4-5 on the season heading into the regular season’s final stretch.
ASHLEY ROLLS PAST WEST BRUNSWICK
The West Brunswick Trojans ran into a tough challenge Friday night as Ashley High School claimed a 33-6 victory.
West Brunswick managed to get on the scoreboard but struggled to slow Ashley’s offense throughout the contest. The Eagles controlled the game from start to finish, handing the Trojans a conference setback.
Despite the loss, West Brunswick will have an opportunity to regroup and finish the season strong with one week remaining in the regular season.
HOGGARD OVERPOWERS NORTH BRUNSWICK
It was a long night for the North Brunswick Scorpions as they faced one of the Cape Fear region’s top programs. Hoggard High School rolled to a 67-7 victory Friday night.
The Vikings’ offense proved too much for North Brunswick, building a large lead and never allowing the Scorpions to gain momentum. North Brunswick’s lone touchdown prevented the shutout, but Hoggard remained in control throughout the contest.
The Scorpions will look to bounce back next week as they seek a positive finish to the season.
