Free Outdoor Programs Offered This Fall Through Horry County Parks and Recreation

HORRY COUNTY, SC — Residents looking to enjoy the outdoors this fall will have three free opportunities to explore the natural landscapes of Horry County. Parks and Recreation is offering salt marsh activities and guided forest walks beginning this week and continuing through late September.

Salt Marsh Crabbing begins August 31 at Sanford D. Cox Sr. Community Park, giving participants a hands‑on look at coastal wildlife and tidal ecosystems. The program is open to all ages, with children under 16 required to attend with an adult.

Explore the Forest will be held Fridays from September 11 through 25 at Vereen Memorial Historical Gardens. The guided walks highlight the park’s wooded trails, native plants, and historical features.

Salt Marsh Stroll, also hosted at Vereen Memorial Historical Gardens, runs Wednesdays from September 16 – 30. The stroll offers a slower‑paced look at the marsh environment and is designed for participants of all ages.

All programs are free, but pre‑registration is encouraged. More details and registration are available through Horry County Parks and Recreation
