CONWAY, SC — Horry County Schools made several temporary morning bus route adjustments in the Aynor and Loris attendance areas on Friday, a same‑day operational shift that has already concluded but remains important for families who experienced delays or unexpected changes.
The district said Friday’s adjustments were driven by ongoing driver shortages, a challenge that has persisted throughout the fall. With dozens of vacancies still open, transportation teams occasionally reassign drivers, combine stops, or adjust timing to ensure every route is covered. That’s what happened Friday morning, when several buses ran later than usual as drivers doubled back to pick up additional students.
Although the changes were limited to Friday morning, they still matter to families who rely on consistent transportation. Parents reported minor delays at stops in Aynor and Loris, and some students arrived at school later than their typical schedule. The district emphasized that no routes were removed or permanently altered; Friday’s adjustments were strictly operational and made to keep buses running despite staffing gaps.
HCS encouraged families to continue checking the district’s MyBus / MyRide K‑12 system for real‑time updates, noting that similar temporary adjustments may occur again if driver shortages persist. Officials said they are actively recruiting new drivers and offering paid training to stabilize coverage heading into October.
While Friday’s changes are now in the rearview, they highlight the broader transportation strain facing the district — and why families may see occasional morning shifts until staffing levels improve.
