Loris, SC — Horry County Fire Rescue (HCFR) contained a slow‑moving woods fire along Gause Road in Loris on Saturday, September 26, after the incident grew to an estimated 6 acres and prompted temporary traffic impacts in the surrounding area.
HCFR was dispatched at 7:13 p.m. to the area near Highway 139 after reports of a woods fire that initially measured approximately five acres. Lanes of Gause Road were blocked during the response, and motorists were asked to avoid the area for safety and to prevent delays.
Crews from the South Carolina Forestry Commission (SCFC) and the Loris Fire Department assisted. SCFC deployed two plows to cut fire‑break lines around the burned sections, and all nearby structures were successfully protected.
By 9:20 p.m., the fire was fully contained and the incident was declared under control. Smoke continued drifting across the area throughout the night, and officials noted that residents may continue to see smoke and occasional flareups for an extended duration. HCFR crews monitored the site following containment and responded as needed.
