Bolivia, NC — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, under the leadership of Sheriff Brian Chism, is partnering with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in a coordinated effort to remove dangerous and illegal vaping substances from local communities.
Illegal vape products continue to raise public‑safety concerns, especially because users often have no clear understanding of what chemicals or controlled substances they may be inhaling. Investigators have identified products containing synthetic marijuana, synthetic cathinones and 7‑OH in vape shops, frequently packaged in bright, youth‑oriented designs that mimic popular candy, cereal and snack brands.
Reports have also surfaced of unintentional positive drug tests linked to substances found in vape‑store products. Such incidents can jeopardize the careers of military personnel, teachers, law‑enforcement officers, medical professionals and others who undergo routine drug screening.
Sheriff Chism said the Sheriff’s Office remains committed to working with federal partners to protect communities, disrupt the distribution of dangerous and illegal substances, and prevent harm, particularly among young people.
Local, county, state and federal agencies across North Carolina are participating in the initiative.
