SURFSIDE BEACH, SC — A North Carolina man died Saturday following a motorcycle crash along US 17 Business, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.

Christopher Sims, 44, of Eden, was taken to a local hospital after the wreck and later died from his injuries, the coroner’s office said.

Emergency crews responded to the scene along a busy stretch of US 17 Business that typically sees heavy weekend traffic through Surfside Beach. First responders began treatment before Sims was transported for further care.

Authorities have not released information about what may have led to the motorcycle going down, and no additional injuries were reported. Investigators have not said whether any other vehicles were involved.

Surfside Beach police are leading the investigation.

Motorcycle crashes remain a recurring concern in the Grand Strand, particularly during late summer and early fall when rider traffic increases along coastal corridors.
