Detectives allege a 22-year-old Stoneville man supplied drugs linked to a July overdose death in Brunswick County.
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office has announced a death by distribution charge following a months-long investigation into a fatal overdose that occurred earlier this year.
According to the sheriff’s office, Dallas Sutton died from an overdose on July 16, 2026, in Brunswick County.
During the investigation, detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division and Vice and Narcotics Division determined that methamphetamine and fentanyl were present at the scene. Toxicology testing later confirmed both substances were in Sutton’s system at the time of her death.
Investigators subsequently identified Jordan Anthony Scott, 22, of Stoneville, Rockingham County as a suspect in the case. Detectives said they gathered evidence indicating Scott provided controlled substances to Sutton before her death.
As a result of the investigation, Scott has been charged with death by distribution.
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office stated that it remains committed to thoroughly investigating overdose-related deaths and pursuing charges against individuals accused of distributing dangerous illegal drugs.
A charge is an accusation. All individuals named in this report are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Charges and case statuses may change as investigations and court proceedings continue.
