Sunset Beach, NC — Residents on the east side of Sunset Beach Island are being advised to expect routine fire hydrant flow testing this week as the Sunset Beach Fire Department continues its month-long effort to verify water pressure and ensure emergency readiness across the island.

The department previously announced that hydrant testing would take place throughout October. As previously reported by Coastal Carolina News in Sunset Beach Fire Department Announces October Hydrant Testing Across Island, crews are conducting scheduled testing to help maintain the reliability of the island’s fire protection infrastructure.

Testing on the east side of the island is scheduled for: today – Tuesday, October 13 and Wednesday, October 14

Testing will be conducted daily between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The affected areas include: East Main Street, Northshore East, Canal Drive, Riverside Drive, Marlin Street, Sailfish Street, Dolphin Street, Cobia Streetand lastly, 1st Street through 19th Street.

During the testing process, residents may experience temporary water discoloration. Officials say this is a normal occurrence when hydrants are flushed and tested and does not present a safety concern.

The fire department recommends that residents:

  • Run cold water from a faucet for several minutes until the water clears if discoloration occurs.
  • Avoid washing white or light-colored clothing during scheduled testing hours in their neighborhood.
