LAKE WACCAMAW, NC — The Town of Lake Waccamaw has announced plans to conduct smoke testing on portions of its sanitary sewer system on October 15 as part of ongoing efforts to identify and address infrastructure issues.
Testing will take place in the following areas:
• Church Street • Cameron Street • Central Avenue • Ash Street• Dogwood Street• Lakeview Avenue • Nancy Street • Dallas Street • Live Oak Street
• Lakeshore Drive, from 102 to 412.
According to town officials, smoke testing is a standard method used to locate cracks, leaks, and other defects within sewer lines, as well as identify locations where rainwater or groundwater may be entering the system.
During the testing process, residents may observe smoke emerging from manholes, sewer vents, or the ground near sewer infrastructure. The smoke used in the procedure is designed to reveal openings in the system and is considered non-toxic and non-staining.
Officials noted that the testing is an important component of maintaining the sewer system and improving its overall efficiency and reliability.
Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to be aware of the testing activities taking place throughout the day.
