Brunswick County Seeks Residents to Serve on New Internal Audit Committee

By Coastal Carolina News Staff Writer

BOLIVIA, NC — Brunswick County officials are looking for qualified residents to help strengthen oversight of county finances through a newly established – Internal Audit Committee.

The county is currently accepting applications for two community member positions with Certified Public Accounting experience to serve on the three-member advisory body alongside a member of the Board of Commissioners. The committee was recently created as part of Brunswick County’s ongoing efforts to enhance financial accountability and government transparency.

While much of county government operates behind the scenes, financial oversight committees often play an important role in reviewing processes designed to safeguard taxpayer funds and ensure sound fiscal practices.

As Brunswick County experiences continued population growth and expanding service demands, residents have increasingly shown interest in how public dollars are managed and spent. The formation of the committee provides an opportunity for qualified local professionals to participate directly in that process.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must be current Brunswick County residents, registered to vote in the county, and current on all county property taxes. County officials prefer applicants holding active CPA licenses, though individuals with inactive credentials who possess strong backgrounds in internal controls, risk management, IT, and financial governance will also be considered. Qualifications will be reviewed and approved by the County Finance Director, and selected members will be required to sign a standard confidentiality agreement.

Interested residents must submit their applications online before the 5:00 p.m. deadline on Thursday, November 5, 2026. Online submission forms and committee details are available on the county’s official web portal. When filling out the application, prospective members are encouraged to outline how their background aligns with committee requirements in the designated submission section.

The Board of Commissioners is scheduled to review eligible applicants and make final appointments during its regular meeting on Monday, November 16, 2026. Appointed community members will serve two-year terms. Residents seeking additional information about the application process can contact the Clerk to the Board of Commissioners by phone at 910.253.2017

The committee’s work is expected to support county leadership by providing an additional layer of review and accountability as Brunswick County continues planning for future growth and infrastructure needs.
