Nichols, SC — A woods fire reported earlier near Spring Branch Road and Breckenridge Drive in the Nichols area was fully contained as of 6:00 p.m., according to Horry County Fire Rescue.
The fire was first reported at approximately 2:40 p.m. and initially was estimated at around 10 acres as firefighters worked to stop its spread. By the time containment was achieved, the fire had grown to an estimated 25 acres.
Horry County Fire Rescue said crews from the South Carolina Forestry Commission used forestry plows to establish full containment of the fire. The Loris Fire Department also assisted with the response.
Although the fire was contained, officials advised that smoke and occasional flare-ups could remain visible in the area for an extended period as crews continued monitoring for hotspots.
