Free community event will showcase traditional cane syrup making, historic cooking demonstrations, and family-friendly activities in Conway.
CONWAY, SC — Visitors can experience a historic Horry County tradition during Syrup Day at the L.W. Paul Living History Farm on Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12noon.
The annual event highlights the time-honored process of making cane syrup, a practice that once played an important role in rural farm life throughout Horry County. Historically, sugar cane was harvested each fall and taken to local cane mills, where juice was extracted from the stalks and cooked down into sweet syrup.
The process often became a community gathering and celebration.
During the event, staff and volunteers will demonstrate the traditional syrup-making process while showcasing other aspects of farm life from years past. Guests can also enjoy children’s games, cooking demonstrations on a wood-burning stove, and a variety of other hands-on historical activities.
Syrup Day is free and open to the public.
The L.W. Paul Living History Farm is located at 2279 Harris Short Cut Road in Conway. For additional information, call (843) 915-5321.
