Absentee Voting Begins in Brunswick County Ahead of the 2026 General Election

Bolivia, NC — Absentee voting for the 2026 General Election is officially underway in Brunswick County, and voters who previously requested an absentee ballot will begin receiving their ballots by mail soon. Residents who still need to request an absentee ballot may do so through October 20 using the North Carolina State Board of Elections’ secure online portal 

Any registered voter in Brunswick County may vote by absentee ballot this year. Election officials outline the process in three straightforward steps: request your ballot, vote your ballot, and return your ballot before Election Day on November 3.

Requesting Your Ballot

Voters who have not yet requested an absentee ballot may submit their request through October 20. The online request system, allows voters to complete the form electronically and track the status of their ballot once it is issued.

Voting and Returning Your Ballot by Mail

For the general election, absentee ballots must be received by the Brunswick County Board of Elections no later than 7:30 p.m. on Election Day, November 3, 2026. The United States Postal Service recommends mailing ballots at least one week before Election Day to ensure timely delivery. Voters should confirm that all required fields on the ballot envelope are completed before mailing.

Returning Your Ballot In Person

Voters may return their completed absentee ballot directly to the Brunswick County Board of Elections office through 7:30 p.m. on Election Day. Ballots may also be returned at any in‑person early voting site during the early voting period. Election officials note that absentee ballots cannot be returned to a polling place on Election Day. If a ballot is delivered in person, the individual returning it must complete a required return log at the drop‑off location.

Residents are encouraged to make their plan to vote early, whether voting absentee, voting during the early voting period, or voting on Election Day.
