SOUTHPORT, NC — The community will gather Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. for the Southport Strong Prayer Vigil, marking one year since the Southport mass shooting. The event will honor those who lost their lives and offer support to those impacted.

The vigil will be held at Southport Baptist Church, 200 North Howe Street, with Pastor Devon Varnam leading the service. Local clergy, pastors, and community leaders will share prayers, poems, songs, and words of encouragement focused on healing and unity.

Organizers say the evening will serve as a time of remembrance and hope under the theme “Together, we heal. Together, we stand. Southport Strong.”

The event is sponsored by the Southport Police Department and Southport Fire Department, and all residents are invited to attend.
