Frances was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and she mourned the loss of her other sisters over the years, assisting each of them at the end of their lives.
Frances had a long and wonderful life, graduating as class valedictorian from her high school in rural North Carolina near Bethel. Her drive to study and learn was the hallmark of her life but she was also a very talented vocalist and sang in an all female trio at many USO shows during World War II. She continued singing in church choirs throughout her life. Out of all the places she lived, her most loved spot was Raleigh, NC. This town became home for her and while there she belonged to Forest Hills Baptist Church and was a member of the congregation for 50 years, singing in the choir for most of that time. A cherished memory that she shared was that as a young wife living in Asheville, NC, Mrs Little was an assistant to the Reverend Billy Graham Sr., a fact that gave her much satisfaction and pride.
Frances loved history, taking many tours over the years to see and experience locations of historical and sentimental value. Her education continued through her love of reading, and she visited libraries in every town she lived in on a weekly basis. Books were a great love, a passion and helped satisfy her constant intellectual curiosity. Frances’ professional life was as an Administrative Assistant for the state of North Carolina and after many years of employment, this was the job from which she retired. Frances was also an avid tennis player with a great backhand and she regularly played doubles with her late husband Silas J Little Jr. Another passion at which she excelled was bridge and she developed many long-lasting friendships while pursuing the game. I also want to include the crosswords puzzles that she loved and scrabble games in which she was very rarely defeated (since her vocabulary was extensive)! If asked, Frances would attribute her long life and extended health to walking every day, eating properly and trying to maintain a sense of humor that got her through life’s vicissitudes.
Frances is survived by 2 sons: David Little and Jerry Little and her daughter-in-law Lynne Little. 3 grandchildren: Whitney Little, Sydney McGowan and Jason Little. 5 Great Grandchildren: Mabel McGowan, Jacob Little, Emma Little, Alyssa Little and Tyler Little.
