Whiteville, NC — Coastal Carolina News is recognizing a group of Williams Township educators, students, and families as this week’s Community Heroes for their outstanding support for the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Animal Protective Services(CCSO APS).
Teachers Tracie Raulerson, Amber Greene, Taylor Housand, and Lorena Baker helped lead a donation effort that brought in food, treats, toys, and comfort items for animals currently housed at CCSO APS. Shelter staff say the supplies made an immediate impact, providing enrichment and reassurance for animals that often arrive frightened, uncertain, or recovering from difficult circumstances. The donations also gave a boost to personnel as well – seeing that community cares about what they do day in and day out without any fanfare.
The donation included items that directly improve daily care, from quality food to toys that help reduce stress and encourage healthy behavior. APS personnel noted that these contributions are already in use throughout the facility and have noticeably improved the wellbeing of both dogs and cats.
Coastal Carolina News recognizes the Williams Township School for demonstrating the kind of compassion and initiative that strengthens local animal‑welfare efforts. This project went beyond a routine donation; it reflected a commitment to service and a willingness to step forward when help is needed.
