Whiteville Woman Charged with Filing False Motor Vehicle Theft Report

WHITEVILLE, NC — A Whiteville resident was processed into the county jail early Monday morning after allegedly filing a fraudulent vehicle theft report with law enforcement.

Tammy Herring Clewis, 56, of 76 Caswell Sellers Drive, was arrested on Monday, Sept. 28, by the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office. Clewis was charged with making a false report of theft of a motor vehicle.

She was booked into the Columbus County Detention Center at 2:10 a.m. and subsequently released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.

All individuals named in this report are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Charges and case statuses may change as investigations and court proceedings continue.
