Rodney Eugene Wilson, age 77, of Lake Waccamaw, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, October 4, 2026. Rodney was born on December 11, 1948. His parents were the late Joe Wilson Sr. and Jenny Richardson Wilson. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife: Maryann Margaret Straussner Wilson.
After graduating from high school, Rodney entered the service and served his country in the United States Army. He then started working at Federal Paper Mill (International Paper) and retired after 32 years while also maintaining Wilson Auto Sales in Hallsboro.
Rodney was an avid hunter and was one of the founding members of White Marsh Hunting Club. He also was a strong supporter of an AA group that met for 30+ years in Whiteville.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons; Rodney E. Wilson Jr. (Sheila), Matthew E. Wilson (Tori) and Thomas J. Wilson (Chelsea) all of Lake Waccamaw, brother; Joe Wilson Jr. (Nellie) of Hallsboro, sister; Kathy Wilson-Hoglund (Staffan) of Sweden, his companion; Sheila Young of Ash, and grandchildren; Katie, Kinsley, Lakyn, Brynnan, Drayton, Harper and Addison.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Lake Waccamaw Methodist Church at 2:00 pm with Rev. Scott Lewis, and Rev. Yates Powell III officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 -1:45 pm prior to the service.
