A controlled burn on Horse Island was conducted Thursday as part of ongoing debris management on the state-owned property located just south of the Davis Canal along the Intracoastal Waterway.
Officials advised that lingering smoke from the operation could continue to affect surrounding areas through Friday, particularly along West Oak Island Drive and West Beach Drive and homes closest to the ICW in Sunset Habor.
While the volume of smoke and burning debris does not present an immediate hazard to public safety, residents and visitors with pre-existing respiratory conditions or sensitivities are encouraged to take appropriate precautions when spending time outdoors.
