Claredon NC — Survey found tornado damage near Roseland Road east of Joe Brown Highway South in the Clarendon community.
The National Weather Service Wilmington has confirmed that an EF-0 tornado bullied it way on through the Clarendon area of Columbus County on October 11.
According to information released following a storm damage survey, the tornado moved through the area near Roseland Road east of Joe Brown Highway South at approximately 12:04 p.m. Sunday, causing damage that included the destruction of a farm building and a grain bin.
The confirmation comes after meteorologists conducted post-storm assessments to determine whether damage reported in the area was caused by straight-line winds or a tornadic event.
The tornado was rated EF-0, the lowest rating on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which classifies tornadoes based on estimated wind speeds and observed damage. Even at EF-0 strength, tornadoes can cause damage to outbuildings, agricultural structures, trees and other property.
Sunday’s storms prompted multiple tornado warnings across portions of Columbus County and neighboring areas as severe thunderstorms moved through the region. The National Weather Service had issued tornado warnings for parts of northeastern Columbus County during the event.
Additional details regarding the tornado’s maximum winds, path length and width were not immediately available at the time of publication.
