SOCASTEE, SC — An active investigation is underway in the Socastee area following an exchange of gunfire between law enforcement and a suspect late Thursday afternoon.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred in the 800 block of Hayes Point Circle, where Horry County Police Department officers responded to a situation involving a threat. During the encounter, shots were exchanged.
Authorities have confirmed that no police officers were injured in the exchange.
Due to the involvement of law enforcement gunfire, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has been called in to lead the independent investigation, which remains ongoing.
