GRISSETTOWN, NC — The SOHO Running Club—representing the Brunswick County island communities of Sunset Beach, Ocean Isle, Holden Beach, and Oak Island—is bringing a Halloween‑themed twist to a community fundraiser with the Graveyard Gallop 5K. This costumed road race supports the Grissettown Volunteer Fire Department, District 31. Organizers describe the event as “a graveyard smash for charity cash,” blending seasonal fun with a mission to help fund lifesaving equipment for local emergency response.

The race features costumed volunteers along the course and at the water stop, adding a lighthearted scare factor for runners as they make their way through the route. After crossing the finish line, participants are invited to stay for an afternoon of family activities at the fire station.
Post‑race festivities include meet‑and‑greet photo opportunities with Sparky the Fire Dog and District 31 firefighters, a bounce house and slide for children, and a costume contest open to all ages. Runners age 21 and older will receive one complimentary beer. The concession stand will be open with food prepared by District 31 firefighters, including their well‑known funnel cakes.
Race bibs will also serve as a discount pass for the department’s Haunted Trail, offering $5.00 off admission to the nighttime attraction beginning at 7:00 p.m. Organizers say the trail is designed to deliver a “scary‑fun evening” for families and thrill‑seekers.
Proceeds from the Graveyard Gallop will go directly to the Grissettown Volunteer Fire Department. Funds raised will help the department maintain and improve its ability to provide expedient emergency services to residents by supporting the purchase of essential, life‑saving equipment.
