HALLSBORO NC — A violent head-on collision involving a passenger van and a commercial fuel tanker tied up traffic and brought emergency personnel to Hallsboro Road South early Saturday morning.

Responders with the Hallsboro Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched at 2:40 a.m. to the scene near 1062 Hallsboro Road South, close to the Red Bug Road intersection. According to Firefighters, a passenger van traveling in the left lane collided head-on with a fuel tanker truck.
The force of the impact shook nearby residences, sending the tanker truck off the roadway and into an adjacent field. Nearby resident Lana Formy Duval Hogan reported hearing the crash, noting that the collision shook her home and left the truck’s lights visible in the field.
The Hallsboro Volunteer Fire Department issued a community advisory following the crash, restricting Hallsboro Road South to one lane of travel as emergency crews worked to clear debris and secure the area. One lane was reopened to traffic around 9:00 a.m.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the cause of the collision.
