NC State Board Meets at 2 p.m. — Official Extension Orders Still Pending

RALEIGH,  NC — The North Carolina State Board of Elections convened an emergency remote meeting via Webex at 2:00 p.m. today to address morning voting interruptions and evaluate whether to extend polling hours in affected counties. Among the precincts under review is the South Williams-Tabor City Courthouse location in Columbus County. Because the emergency meeting began at 2:00 p.m., official decision orders regarding specific voting time extensions have not yet been publicly finalized.

Under state law, the State Board holds authority to extend operating hours for a precinct if voting was delayed or interrupted for at least 15 minutes. Any votes cast after the standard 7:30 p.m. closing time during board-ordered extensions will be cast as provisional ballots. Additionally, if an extension is approved for any precinct, election results reporting for that entire county will be held until all voting is finished across extended sites.

Regular polling place hours across North Carolina are 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Regardless of any board decisions regarding extensions, any eligible voter who is in line at their assigned polling place by 7:30 p.m. must be allowed to cast a ballot.

This is a developing story.
