October and November Stops for Bladen and Columbus County
BLADENBORO / WHITEVILLE — Catholic Charities Cape Fear Region is preparing for its next round of mobile pantry distributions, bringing free food assistance directly into rural communities where access to groceries remains limited. The organization confirmed three upcoming stops – one in Bladenboro and two in Columbus County – as part of its ongoing effort to reduce barriers for families who struggle with transportation, rising food costs, or both.
The mobile pantry model has become a cornerstone of Catholic Charities’ outreach in southeastern North Carolina. The approach grew out of disaster‑relief efforts following hurricanes Matthew and Florence, when volunteers witnessed how many families were living in long‑term food insecurity. What began as emergency deliveries has since evolved into a regular schedule of rural distribution points, each designed to meet residents where they are rather than requiring them to travel long distances for assistance.
In Bladenboro, the pantry will operate from the Bladenboro Historical Building on South Main Street, a familiar site for residents who rely on monthly food support. Columbus County’s distributions will again be held at the county health department on Jefferson Street in Whiteville, a location chosen for its central access and ability to accommodate walk‑ups.
All three events begin at 11:00 a.m., and volunteers will be on hand to help load boxes for seniors, individuals with disabilities, and anyone who need assistance.
The program’s regular visits to Bladenboro and Columbus County provide a consistent source of fresh produce, shelf‑stable goods, and other essentials. For many residents, the pantry now functions as more than a temporary support system. It offers a dependable presence during a period marked by economic uncertainty, giving families a measure of stability at a time when everyday necessities have become harder to reach.
The upcoming schedule begins with the Columbus County stop on October 1 at the health department in Whiteville. The Bladenboro distribution follows on October 15 at the historical building downtown. The pantry returns to Columbus County on November 5, again at the health department, continuing a pattern of consistent access points that local families have come to rely on.
