WHITEVILLE, NC — A Friday night shooting in Whiteville left a vehicle damaged and led to a multi-count felony investigation involving young children.
Deputy Cail L. Brown of the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence at 17 Carucci Drive around 7:46 p.m. on Sept. 25 following reports of gunfire. Investigators found that a handgun was fired directly into an occupied Chevrolet Impala, striking the car doors and causing an estimated $500 in damage.
According to incident reports, three individuals were inside the vehicle when the shots were fired, including two juveniles. Authorities identified a 29-year-old male suspect in connection with the attack.
Hours later, early Saturday morning, Xavier Tamaree Dshaun White, 29, of Elizabethtown, was booked into the Columbus County Detention Center at 2:08 a.m. by Sheriff’s Office deputies. White was charged with three felony counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied property and one felony count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
White is being held under a $100,000 secured bond for the firearm possession charge, with no bond allowed on the three counts of shooting into an occupied property.
All individuals named in this report are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Charges and case statuses may change as investigations and court proceedings continue.
