Horry County, SC — Law enforcement agencies across Horry County are investigating a series of automated hoax bomb threats targeting local high schools.
The latest incident occurred earlier today, October 9, 2026, when Horry County 9-1-1 dispatch received an electronically generated call at 9:27 a.m. alleging a bomb threat at Conway High School on Church Street. Conway Police Department officers immediately responded to the campus, placing the school on alert and conducting a safety sweep. Officers quickly determined the call was an automated hoax, and the campus was cleared without incident.
The threat follows a similar event earlier in the week at North Myrtle Beach High School on Wednesday, October 7. In that instance, emergency dispatch received a computer-generated 9-1-1 call directing a threat toward the campus. The school was temporarily placed under a protective hold status while law enforcement searched the facilities. Officers cleared the school after confirming no actual danger existed.
Investigators confirmed that both incidents involved synthetic or text-to-speech automated calls routed to dispatchers. Local police departments, alongside regional and federal law enforcement partners, are tracking digital logs and telecommunications routing data to trace the origin of the automated swatting calls.
Horry County Schools officials emphasized that all standard safety protocols were executed swiftly, ensuring students and staff remained safe while minimizing disruptions to instruction. Anyone with information regarding the origin of these calls is encouraged to contact local law enforcement or submit an anonymous tip.
