Stage 1 alert lifted effective October 16 following recent rainfall and reduced demand on the county water system

BOLIVIA, NC — Brunswick County Public Utilities has rescinded its Stage 1 Voluntary Water Conservation Alert effective Friday, October 16, 2026, citing recent rainfall, improving drought conditions, and successful conservation efforts by customers.
The alert, which was originally issued August 31, 2026, was intended to help reduce demand on Brunswick County’s public water system during a period of severe drought. County officials said improved conditions have helped balance water demand with the county’s available production and distribution capacity.
The county expressed appreciation to customers who complied with both voluntary and mandatory water-use restrictions while Brunswick County experienced Extreme Drought (D3) and Exceptional Drought (D4) conditions during the summer.
Officials noted that the rescission applies only to customers served by Brunswick County’s public water system. Properties using alternative water sources, including private groundwater wells, retention ponds, or Brunswick Regional Water and Sewer H2GO systems, are not affected by this notice.
H2GO customers are encouraged to visit h2gonc.gov for any water conservation guidance or notices specific to that utility system.
With drought conditions easing and water demand stabilizing, Brunswick County officials said public conservation efforts played an important role in helping maintain the reliability of the county’s water infrastructure throughout the drought period.
