Brunswick County Commissioners Met Monday Night, Moved Two Community Items Forward

Board approves dog day care permit and advances cemetery committee framework

Bolivia, NC —  Brunswick County commissioners met Monday night and moved two community‑focused items forward, approving a special use permit for a new dog daycare and directing staff to formalize a structure for a county cemetery committee.

The board signed off on the dog daycare permit following a brief public hearing. Planning staff reported that the applicant met all required conditions for fencing, sanitation, noise mitigation, and traffic flow. No speakers opposed the request, and commissioners voted unanimously to allow the facility to operate within the zoning district.

In a separate agenda item, commissioners agreed to continue developing a Cemetery Advisory Committee. The proposed group would help identify, catalog, and preserve historic and private burial sites across Brunswick County. Officials said the effort responds to ongoing concerns about maintenance gaps and unclear ownership records. Staff will return at a future meeting with recommended membership guidelines and a defined scope of authority.

Both items will come back before the board as implementation steps progress.
